WWT saved 19-29% on server energy consumption with QiO’s AI solution

WWT saved 19-29% on server energy consumption with QiO’s AI solution

QiO Technologies partnered with Intel last year to create an industry-leading software product - Foresight Optima DC+™ - helping companies reduce energy consumption from their server estate without compromising availability or performance.

WWT, a global technology solution provider and a large Intel client, tested the technology as part of its commitment to providing innovative solutions to its clients.

Promising results highlighting proof of value in saving energy use, costs and emissions.

The testing and analysis of Foresight Optima DC+™ showed a general reduction in energy consumption across the lab servers. Servers with flat loads saw an average power draw reduction of 19-23 per cent, and servers with varying loads saw a higher average power draw reduction of 27-29 per cent.

The results were validated against PDU data and confirmed.  In addition, the cooling infrastructure showed a lower requirement for cooling the servers with the technology in place, indicating that more energy can be saved on the building side, and carbon emissions can be further reduced.

"Having tested this solution in WWT's Advanced Technology Center (ATC) Sustainability lab, where we are able to independently and objectively test hardware and software permutations, in our technical opinion, this solution merits serious consideration in the march towards making data centers more sustainable."

Chris Braun, WWT Technical Solutions Architect

Installing the Foresight Optima DC+™ required just a few steps and highlighted that it can be implemented on-premise in just a few weeks.

As data volumes continue to grow 30% per year, the Paris Agreement targets for the data centre industry still require significant emissions reductions of about 53% by 2030.

Carbon offsetting is not achieving the goals, and whilst renewables have their place, our focus must now shift to prioritise energy consumption, reduction and optimisation.

“While companies wrestle with net zero plans, ensuring sustainable solutions that do not reduce performance or incur higher costs is crucial. AI and machine learning are transforming everything, and World Wide Technology (WWT) expects that they will transform the way in which data centers are operated.”
