The SECURITY Specialist Interest Group (SIG) is chaired by Nigel Laws from G4S

The DCA Security SIG is aimed at security & Facility Management professionals working in the Data Centre Sector.

Our mission is to collaborate best practice, standards and guidelines on data centre physical security from initial risk management consulting to personnel provision/manned guarding services to the latest systems technology adoption.

The group will aim to discover how physical security can integrate with cyber security enforcement & will consider developing cyber security strategies through further collaboration.

We aim to address the commonly found layers or areas of security to the data centre including:-

  • The perimeter
  • Clear space, car parking and reception areas
  • Common & Circulation areas
  • The Security Operations Centre
  • The plant room (Grey Space)
  • The data centre floor (White Space)
  • The racks (including consideration to containment models)

Typical thought leadership & knowledge exchange may include physical security best practices that operate across the data center including:- 

  • Perimeter detection (PIDs)
  • Fencing, gates and barriers
  • Anti-intrusion defense & man and vehicle traps,
  • Access control including biometrics
  • Searching and screening
  • Fire Alarm, detection & protection
  • Surveillance (CCTV & VMS)
  • Security Operations Centre (SOC) & remote Alarm Handling Centre (ARC)
  • Together with the role of the Visitor/ Reception services, the security officer, mobile patrols & reactive response services.

We also aim to discuss, discover & share ideas to mitigate risk from existing, new & emerging threat actors recognised amongst our data centre community, such as;-

  • Protest Groups
  • Terrorism
  • Urban Exploration
  • Inside Threats
